The Future of Homo Sapiens
An Animated Short Film
During summer 2023 I read a book by Yuval Harari called "Homo-Deus". The book inspired me to create a Kurzgesagt inspired animated short film, summarizing some of the key elements from the book in my own story and film.
This short film gives a glimpse into where we come from and our potential destiny. Discussing impact of technological advancements, artificial intelligence and biotechnology, the film raises thought-provoking questions about the direction of human evolution, leaving an open end to the viewer about the challenges or opportunities that lie ahead, utopia or dystopia.
The Process
The vision was to create a visually satisfying experience and to leave the viewer with an emotional impact.
Once the narrative foundation was set, I began creating wireframes, experimenting to come up with a visual style that resonated with my vision. At the time I was inspired by the aesthetic of Kurzgesagt and wanted to create something similar to that, while also aiming to incorporate my own unique twist into the film.
Besides the illustration and animation process, sound design played a huge role in my process.
